Aftermarket pulleys....... Posted by MI-Roger [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Anyone tried pulleys from NAPA?, Mike C, Mon, 9 May 2005 20:11:22 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
When I was replacing the pulleys on my 2000 9-5 I purchased aftermarket pulleys from one of the site sponsors. I discovered that the pulleys were not an exact match and could not be installed! I then had to purchase SAAB pulleys from the local Dealer and return the aftermarket ones. The site sponsor was very fair about it and subsequently modified their info page and catalog to alert purchasers that there was a pulley switch at a specific serial number point in the build.
Might be worth the dollar savings to try the NAPA pulleys, but have a back-up plan (SAAB pulleys from Dealer) just in case the NAPA ones don't fit.
I found the aftermarket upper idler used a different mounting bolt size (8mm vs 10mm), and the reinforcing ribs on the tensioner pulley weren't sufficiently machined which caused the pulley to drag on the tensioner body. I didn't even try to fit the aftermarket middle/lower idler pulley, too difficult to access if it was also wrong.
