I'm new to posting on this site, but have consulted many of your threads as reference throughout my first car buying process. I have always wanted to own a Saab, and patiently searched for the right one. I must admit, I really didn't look at any other cars. I am proud to announce that I just bought a 1999 Saab S sedan in cayenne red with tan interior. Everyone thinks it is the right fit for me, and I knew the first time I set eyes on it, that it was the one. I absolutely love the look and feel of this car!

I brought the car home after a very satisfying drive, and lovingly parked it in the garage after a good vacuuming. The next day I wanted to go for a drive (no errands - just for fun) and it wouldn't start. Both the previous owner and I started/drove this car numerous times, and I really did my homework on what to look for and what to avoid, so I was a little shocked. My first full day of ownership, and I was sitting in my garage in a, albeit beautiful, dead car!

I am pretty sure the DIC needs replacing. Thank's to reading saabnet posts, I was prepared for this and had odered the part as a backup. I guess I am more disappointed than anything, but I figured since it died while parked in my garage on the weekend, I was really pretty lucky.

On the pIus side, I figured this could make for a great first car story (let's hope), and for now gives me and my car a chance to start out fresh. I decided to detail the interior while I waited for the DIC parcel to come in the mail. While cleaning the driver's side carpet, I noticed that there was a hole where the previous owner probably drove with heals on. I've found a driver's side carpet for sale - $75, and am thinking of either installing it myself or getting someone to install it.

Can anyone, tell me of how great an undertaking this may be to do myself, recarpeting the driver's side? Or how much I can expect to pay to get it done? I would greatly appreciate it!

Thanks for reading my very long-winded post,
Jenn
