Wacky headlight failure

It was a dark & stormy night, etc. Driving down a country road, on high beam I dim for an oncoming car & hear "ding!" and SID says "Headlight failure". Sure enough, it looks like the left light is out. Back to highs, I've got both lights. Switching back to low beams for the occasional oncoming car, then back to highs for visibility, after about 5 miles my left headlight comes back t life! I know the left was out for awhile because I had to make a low speed turn where the lights shone against a wall & only had one light.
We have had 3 or 4 times where we got the headlight failure warning on startup, but checking the lights, both were OK.
Is there a separate relay for each light? I'm thinking a relay might be sticking or slow to react. Any other ideas?
Only 4K until the warranty expires & I reported the intermittent failure warning at the last oil change, but of course the dealer couldn't duplicate it. How can I be sure it will get fixed under warranty if it doesn't get bad enough for the dealer to be able to find it until it has 60K?
