I bought SMBC from MPPerformance (~$30 delivered). Instalation is a breaze. However, I found that during adjustments I tended to pull off the vacum tube from the turbo outlet. First I struggled with not enough room for my hand, and heat shield burns, then I found out that going from below the engine goves plenty of access to reinsert the tube.
I installed it on '00 lpt wagon for about two weeks, then removed it for a while, and now it is back for a week.
Adjustments:
In as shipped setting I did not see much difference. I went to adjust it to two treds left and the car acted more responsive but would set off CEL each time I went up a larger hill. Adjusted it back to 4 treads left and it does not set CELs. However, I gave up a lot of responsivness in this way. The milage dropped by ~2mpg in mixed driving conditions. This wagon is already lower by 2mpg than my 99SE-lpt sedan so now it makes ~18.
Impressions: I sometimes feel as the car chokes when doing a rolling fast start and standing starts, turbo kick is noticable at around 2100rpm, gear shifts 1-2 and 2-3 are harsher(tud..), and torque steer is much more pronounced. I have TCS engaged so it interferes a bit on wet, not on dry with Michelins MXVs. I also drive it harder than before. My wife who took over the sedan likes it better since the responsivenes is about the same and the smoothnes of operation is much more noticable. I don't know what is set up different between the two identical engines and milages, except perhaps that factory gave few more horses to the 99SE and did not advertised it.
