Some somewhat related questions.

I have a post way down the list that will probably not get read since it is buried regarding my Check Engine Light.

It has been on for a few weeks (I have not driven the car since it first went on). Came on along with a continous misfire.

I have the standard turbo leak issue (on a 99 9-5) that has been puffing for over a year as well as a intermitent misfire every now and then (somewhat constant on the last drive).

I figure one of the following cuased the check engine light:
1) Impending DI cassette failure caused the misfires (will dis-assmemble it for a visual per other posts).
2) Oil exhaust has killed my O2 sensor. Note that I don't have oil in my intake.
3) Crank Position Sensor failing. Finally bed enough to through a code.
4) Fouled plugs cuased misfires.

I've done/will do the following:
1) Replaced the plugs. They had about 7k on them (maybe 5) and were crusted with soot and oil. Strange since I don't seem to have any noticeable oil in the intake tract. I had platinum plugs in there that an Indy charged my $80(!) to install when I took it in for diagnosis (which was faulty anyway). I replaced them with the stock NGKs for $5.

2) Checked the spark (did this with the old plugs). It was orange, not blue like I expected based on my work with motorcycles.

3) Tkaing the car to my local autparts store with an OBD-II Reader. They say they can read the code for me. Doing this more from curiousity and future knowledge as I'm not sur they can get as much info out as Tech-II.

4) Taking it back to the Indy (giving him one more chance as he is highly recommended) with strict order to just read Tech-II and then discuss the car with me.

My questions:

Platnimu vs. Copper. The manual says copper. We do people use platinum? What are the benefits?

Spark Color. It should be Blue, right? If yes, then I think a new DI is in store.

Not fixing my turbo. Is this going to continue to cause other problems. Other than the puff of smoke, It has not caused any drivability issues. Saving to upgrade to the Mitsubishi unit and an ECU upgrade, but my try to get mine rebuilt by local turbo shop if they can get the kit.

Thanks,

James.
