I think the design of the plastic gourmet mounted to the trunk lid cuts into the wiring. I advise taking you liner off your trunk lid, unfasten the wiring loom holders, christmas tree pop ins difficult to remove (use curved needle nose pliers to compress from the top). Undoing these allows you the slack to undo the accordian rubber at the top plastic gourmet on the trunk lid. Pull down some slack in the wiring harness, inspect for damage and tape up about a 6 inch section, two layers with protective high grade 3-M electrical tape before it gets you too. My top of bumper had wear on the paint signifying that the trunk was a heavy used item for the car for 72,000 miles.
