Loose flasher lever: easy solution !! ![]() Posted by magalar [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() |
if, like me, you are tired of your loose flasher lever, I have found a free repair that'll take you less than 5 minutes to do. No need to buy the OEM assembly.
In fact, the internal mechanism is a sturdy design. But the white plastic housing is kind of fragile. On my car, it was the 2 rear tabs that were missing. These are supposed to provide pressure so the white housing is forced against its 2 release tabs and tightly secured in the black plasting support. When all the tabs are OK, there is no play between the pieces.
My solution ?
I cut 2 pieces of vaccuum tubing (10mm OD, 15mm long) and wedged these between the back of the white housing and the black support. Vaccuum hoses are soft enough (when lightly "ovalized") and have good grip to stay in place. To ease the installation, tape the 2 tubes on the back of the white housing so they won't come off. Do leave the center of the housing free, this is where the "finger" meets the steering wheel to stop the flashing action.
When you'll hear the CLICK sound, you'll know there will be no more play...
If all this reads confusing, then take your Torx driver, remove the 3 bolts (1 under, 2 behind the steering wheel), undo the 2-pieces cover and voila, the switches are there. Remove the wiper switch from its support, look at it, then remove the flasher switch and look at it. You'll see the difference right there, if your flasher lever has broken tabs. No need to unplug the connector. It's that easy.
Now, if taking the slack out of the shifter could be that easy, I would be happy :-)
