Tom,
I just did this. It's not too bad. You do have to remove the front exhaust pipe, three bolts at the front of the engine near the turbo, two in back. The two in back were a pain, rusted in my case. I used a long extension to get at the nuts straight, ended up cutting one of them off (without damaging the stud). There's a little sheet metal plate that is a cover over the bottom of the torque converter held on by two 10mm bolts, take that off otherwise you can't get at the pan bolts near the transmission. There's a breather hose that goes on the pan in back, just pulls off. Then it's just removing the pan bolts. Most of the pan bolts are real accessible with a ratchet and 13mm socket. Two or three of the ones on the passenger side are not all accessible with a ratchet, I used a 13mm open face, fingers and patience. I have not replaced them yet (my engine is coming out) but I suspect they'll go in as they came out -- little by little. After all the botls are out it'll fall down with a little wiggling and then it should just come out. You might want to have a jack handy to raise the trans just a bit to clear the subframe, if you end up doing that you'll want to loosen the upper motor mounts, which are easy to get at (right on top). Sorry for the long winded answer, hope this helps.
