Replacement Michelin Tires No Longer Available Posted by Dazed and Confused [Email] (#1953) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Dazed and Confused) on Sat, 8 Sep 2001 22:56:31 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
So . . . here is the story. Bought new '01 9-5 LPT wagon just 4 months ago -- car has 3750 miles on it. The car came with 4 Michelin MXV4 tires, size 215 55 R 16 V 93s. Quite nice "V" rated high speed tires. Had unfortunate run in, however, with a nail near the side wall of the driver side front tire so that tire cannot be patch (even got a second opinion on this). Called eight tire shops + 2 local Saab dealers -- guess what? Michelin no longer makes the same tire -- instead, it has an MXV4 "plus" with a V 91 designation on it and obvious different tread design. Both Saab dealers tell me it is fine to "mix" the one new tire (a V 91) with the three existing tires (V 93), even though tread designs are different. Since the tires run $220 per tire, I could not stomach changing all four tires so I went with the dealers' advice. At least, I put the two mismatching tires on the rear rather than the front.
How annoying with both Michelin (for changing designs so quickly) and Saab (for not stocking replacement tires and for including a mini-donut spare rather than full-size). Not what I expected from "high quality" manufacturers like Saab and Michelin. How disappointing.
Anyone have any thoughts?
