The reason why German drivers keep to the right on the Autobahn are heavy fines when cought travelling in the left lane and passing on the right likewise, not because they learned to drive so well... Ever flipped someone off? Think twice about that in Germany, as you can get a $1000 ticket for that...(chances are pretty high, actually) Following too close, using your left turning signal or headlights to signal - hey I wanna go faster, will also lead to a heavy fine. Moreover, a lot of the Autobahns have ridiciously low speed limits (35mph in construction zones - or 50mph in curves...). Driving is not necessarily more relaxing (talking about careless drivers), did you hear about the Mercedes engineer that rammed a car off the road for going too slowly - mom and kid died in the accident :( and even though the driver didn't bother stopping, he got cought and prosecuted.
