When I bought my 1999 9-5 SE V-6 w/62,500 km 2 years ago, I sprung for a GM Canada ext. warranty good to 110,500 km. Cost me $1100 CAD plus taxes. No deductible with best possible coverage BTW.
BOY AM I GLAD!!! The first use came last year when I needed a new O2 sensor which would have been a $400 dealer hit. Just last week, at 94,400 km the following items totaling $2400 CAD were done at no cost to me!
1. Fix orange headlamp failure relay (intermittent LH high beam)
2. Replace RH headlamp wiper motor.
3. Top up coolant after level dropped since fluid change a while ago(air?)
4. Replace leaky AC condenser and fill refrigerant.
5. Replace wobbly ACC control unit. Many missing display char. and odd behaviour... lots of self-cals and other codes.
Also had peeling front badge replaced. Not covered but only cost $24 !!
So, while I am unhappy these things failed, I am relieved the warranty was in place. I have "won" big time on this one and have about a year's coverage left! Best money I've spent in a long time.
NEXT... Major service at 96,000 km. While the dealer is in there doing the V6 "free" timing belt, I plan on spending to have the timing belt tensioner assy and other idler pulley done based on the recommendations of fellow BB members here. I NEED to get 3-4 more years out of this car w/o a major hit!
