Only hard part is locating the drain plug..... Posted by MI-Roger [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: AT fluid change 99 95 SE V6, ed, Sat, 2 Jul 2005 16:48:35 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The drain plug has a 24mm hex head so you may need to buy a special wrench. The plug is located at the bottom edge on the vertical face of the transmission case which is closest to the rear of the engine. The head is only half as thick as a standard bolt head and is slightly shrouded by transmission case gussets and bottom pan flanges. I bought a 24mm open end wrench because it was cheapest, but it will only turn 1/12 revolution before hitting case or pan. It becomes a turn plug, flip wrench, turn, flip, turn, etc. Luckily the plug becomes finger loose quickly. An offset box-end wrench is much easier per other posters, but cost twice as much or more.
You will need to buy 4 quarts of transmission fluid, but ONLY ADD 3 QUARTS, then check your fluid level and add more if necessary. You will need a funnel with a narrow tip to fit into the dip stick tube when adding the new fluid. Saab recommends Texaco Dexron-III automatic tranny fluid.
No gasket on drain plug, just a durable O-ring.
