Questions on free maintainance

Firstly. I have a 2001 aero which is now a year old and has 7k on it. The SID recently flashed up 'Time For Service', on startup so I consulted the manual and it indicated this was because it was 1 year in service. My questions
1. Should it indeed get serviced. The service manual indicates 10k,20k,30k no mention of time - namely the at least once a year servicing the SID indicates.
2. Would that service be free+included in the scheduled maint. If not what should get done & how much will it cost.
3. If I continue to put miles on at this rate will I miss out on the free 30k service because I will reach 36 months before 30k.
In the past Ive owned audi and BMW vehicles with similar scheduled maintainance plans, and both have included both mileage and time period in calculating when the maintaince should occur (eg 12k or 12 months whichever comes first). Yes the BM diagnoses its own mileage period depending on driving conditions but there is still a maximum time period between service attention of 1 yr. Because of this you dont miss out on any of the 'free' services you have prepaid for. What is the fine print of the saab plan.
Finally, people here are mentioning 5k 15k etc services, these are just supplemental oil changes right?
