Help: Timing chain noise

Hi,
I just expericnced a problem and had to have my 2000 9-5 4cyl. towed(flatbedded) over 70 miles. I was in Boston and started tphear a rattle like, tink,tink, much like that of an exhaust systom cooling or better yet that of a Harley Evo motor cooling off. It was quite loud however. I stopped and opened the hood to listen and it seems to be comming from the eng right side (facing fwd) right where the chain is. I am thinking it could be the chain tensioner but have not heard of this being a problem before. Anyone have any thoughts on what this might be? I do plan to pull the cam cover tomorrow or Sunday to have a look.
