'Compressor' Like Sound Run-on After Ignition Turned Off

After driving with A/C on, I switch the ignition off and I can hear what I can only characterize as the muffled sound of a compressor coming from the engine area of the car. It gradually fades away after about 30 secs.
As well, if the outside ambient temp is 85F+, when I switch the ignition on, sometimes I hear, again, what I can only characterize as a vacum like sound from the engine area for a couple of seconds. This problem seems to occur whenever the outside temp is extremely high.
Anybody experience this, and what may be the cause? Thank you in advance for any feedback!
Regards,
Steven
