Hey all, it's been 30,000 miles since my first siteing of the infamous blue smoke a little over a year ago. Back then (when the car was under warranty) I brought this little issue up with my dealer who looked at the Turbo and claimed nothing was wrong with it.
Now, 30,000 miles later, still have the smoke, and still have the original turbo. Also, I have never had to add any oil between changes, and have never been told that my levels are off at oil changes.
So, the question here is... Does this blue smoke really matter? I have no intention of spending a grand on a new turbo, until this one gives up the ghost intirely unless there is a danger in doing so. Does it die overnight, or is there a subtle decrease in performance, or a gradual increase in turbo lag before it keels over for good.
Other than this... knock on wood... I'm yet to spend a penny on my '01 9-5 SW... Love it dearly, and love the 30+MPG I get...
I figure if the turbo does die, I'll be driving a 105 hp wagon that gets 40 mpg once its up to speed (0-60 in 25.5 seconds probably) :)
Any thoughts would be great.
Keith
