the plug parts are "reasonable".
I guess $78 labor must be the standard rate (probably their 1 hr rate) for changing the plugs. I wonder do they even gap those plugs 8-) (??)
Yes, you could just buy the regular plugs at roughly $1 a piece and change the plugs yourself. Ok, you may have to buy a tube of dielectric grease and maybe a good Torx drive and a spark plug socket wrench. Even buying all good tools, I don't think you have to spend $78 for them.
However, figuring in your own labor, say $50/hr (that translate to a $100,000/yr job), you probably still come out ahead (your tools are reusable so, if you going to use the tools 10 times, your per use cost maybe $5 each time, ok, I'm an actuary I think about these things....8-).
I'm no weekend mechanic and I don't even change oil myself but I do change spark plugs 8-). Besides, Saab cars with DIs like new plugs, with gas over $3/gal, it's cheaper to change plugs than a tank of gas 8-).
Ok, I think I'd stop now....going a bit overboard with this post.
Everyone has a great long weekend and donate some $$$ to New Orleans.
