I think 2 9-5's and Russ has a valid point. I have read many times on this BB that Saab owners drive their 9-5 for a few years, tend to enjoy it for the most part. But then they yearn for something more refined and leave the Saab family for something more expensive with a quiet 6 or 8 cylinder engine.

If Saab had a refined, sophisticated top tier luxury sedan, I think alot of people would give it a serious look.

A Saab purist might claim, that's not the Saab way. I'd argue that the Saab way no longer has enough market relevance to be viable, that's why Saab's now selling an SUV. I don't think GM gives a care what a Saab ought to be as long as it sells enough vehicles to make a profit. That's why I don't understand why they've never tried to take the Saab upscale. I think a Saab top tier sedan would make alot more marketing sense than a Saab SUV. There ought to be a Saab answer for the BMW 3 series, 5 series, and 7 series.
