Hello
I have a 9-5 Aero S/W 2002 with 71k miles. full dealer service history, but now out of Warranty.
just developed an oil leak. dealer says that they suspect it is the rear main bearing seal and they want equivalent of $1200 USD to replace it. they say its a big job and they need to remove the gearbox and fly wheel.
I have read a few posts that a likely fix could be the PCV Mod ? Is the oil that is leaking likely to be coming out of the gearbox or engine ?
I asked the Service Manager if he was surprised that a main seal should fail after 70k miles, and he said that he was not surprised at all. I was not expecting a major failure like this at just 70k miles given that I have been so careful with regular oil changes and regular dealer servicing.
I have always used Mobil 1 0w40 in the past, but at the last service 6 k miles ago they put in semi synthetic, this has just been changed back to Mobil 1 today.
Any help appreciated.
