I sold my 97 Aero 5 speed in June and replaced it with an 04 Aero wagon automatic. My observations regarding the two:
9-5 +
Much quicker, even with auto vs. 5-speed
Better handling
Nicer ride - still firm but not as jarring as the 9000
Fantastic brakes
Sport seats more comfortable even than the 9000 Aero seats
9-5 -
Smaller interior dimensions
Less useable interior storage - center console and door pockets too small to be useful, no cubby in console, glovebox practically useless if you carry the owner's manual there.
Smaller sunroof opening
Less height in cargo area; floor higher than in the 9000
Sunroof switch overhead instead of near window switches
If it weren't for the terrific deal I got on the 04 as a CPO vehicle I'd still be driving the 9000. I had two of those and they were great cars. I'm hoping the 9-5 does as well.
