Performance air inlet - four days later.... Posted by MI-Roger [Email] ![]() ![]() |
My impressions 4 days after installing Saab's new performance air inlet are very favorable.
As I reported on Saturday, I could hear a distinct new sound from the inlet (whoosh) during full throttle acceleration with the driver's window down. With the window up I can not hear any difference in the car's sound.
I can not detect any performance difference when accelerating from a stop, but accelerating from highway speeds (at 50 to 70mph) I feel a noticeable difference! The car seems to pull much stronger while accelerating from these speeds, and a couple of times when I expected the transmission to downshift to accelerate it didn't. It didn't need to, the engine was strong enough to rapidly increase my speed w/o any downshifting!
I am basing this on afternoon drives only because the pm temps are still in the upper 80's to low 90's. Morning temps have dropped significantly (to the low 50's) and I can't differentiate effects of the air inlet from lower intercooler temps.
Overall I am impressed and definitely feel I got my money's worth. It won't set the world on fire, but for only $14 ($23 w/ shipping) it does make a positive difference.
