General Motors Protection Plan MajorGuard...... The Cadillac of extended warranties, if you'll pardon the metaphor, is the General Motors Protection Plan, MajorGuard coverage. MajorGuard is the best GMPP and is a "bumper to bumper" or exclusionary warranty, there's a short list of natural wear things that aren't covered, everything else is covered. This is versus a "named component" warranty with groups of things covered like engine, transmission, etc., and lists of covered parts for each, and somehow what breaks is never quite on the list. I do not believe GMPP claims everr require used parts.
So a four year old 9-5 with 41k, you'd likely want a time heavy, vs mileage heavy, warranty. Say another 48mos and 40k from the date of purchase, if purchased before 50,000 miles for a 2001 and up (so wait until 49k as the time and mileage will start then) a 48mos 40k miles GMPP MajorGuard lists for $2,730 and has a $50 deductible.
