I,ve owned four Hondas and they were all reliable cars and for the most part reliable and fun transportation. However they like a Saab required maintenance. I remember that every 24000km the service cost was $279 with oil changes $40 every 6000km in between. I never made it to the major service at 96000km with any of my Hondas because I would sell before the warrantee's ran out but I remember the price on the wall - $750. ALSO Honda recommended that the timing belt ,$160, be changed before 80000km to prevent really nasty stuff from happening, and while you are there change the water pump as well, $100. If you are buying a Honda watch out for suspension parts wearing out around 80000km, $600-800 each on my Civic and on the Accord; and the automatic transmissions, my Civic cost $2250 for a new one at 65000 km. Just before I sold my 01 Odyssey I received a letter extending the auto trans warranty to 7 years due to the many problems with the autos seizing at highway speeds. Manual Hondas are the way to go. And be sure to keep the oil changes regular, honda engines are great but only if you keep the oil clean.
