Thanks Anders,
I would rather be on the safe side and stick with the 5k oil change interval, especially now that I can get it at such a reasonable price. I think WalMart just deals in such volume that they can get that kind of price structure and their techs only need to be apt in oil and tire work and the shop is not an independent entity. WalMart is so big that they sell 21% of everything that is bought retail in America!
I am now cross-rotating my tires every 5k too, so it makes it easy to keep track of the schedule, such as at 85k, 90k, 95k, etc. I will be taking the car into Saab for a 90k service and probably every 30k thereafter. Unfortunately I do not have an independent Saab specialist in my area like yourself to deal with, instead I have to drive about 50miles to the Saab dealership, which is also very hard to book time at, but when it comes to engine work I feel better with the experts. One of the reasons I chose Saab was their reputation for long life and I hope to get at least 300k+ out of it! I love this car, just not the expense of it, fortunately I get reimbursed 48.5 cents/mile for work related driving which is about 93% of the time, which helps a lot!!!
