OK. After days of talking to you guys at Saabnet, and authorized mechanic, OnStar, Ericsson, AND Saab. I am told the following:
OnStar: Only 2001 will enableyou to use handsfree celll AND OnStar
Saab: Due to the 2001 changes to the telematics wiring harness and the 100% installation of OnStar, it is no longer possible to install a cell phone to operate through the audio system. However, it is possible, if the total hands free kit is purchased. Unfortunately, it will not come through the audio system. So, therefore it will not automatically mute your radio.
Also have been told that to wire in with OnStar voids the warranty.
NOT GOOD ENOUGH!!
I think I'll get more enjoyment and use from the handsfree through the audio than OnStar.
Does anyone know if I can 1. Ditch the OnStar, cover the hole with a wood plug (or leave the wiring) 2. Reroute the wiring to a handsfree setup to work through the audio system? Saab made it sound like you can't even get the correct wiring harness.
Plus...I can't do this because I'm all thumbs. My dealer is in Newport News Virginia.... Can anyone help of offer suggestions? I feel I'm held captive here!
