Some systems keeps the code in memory for a long time even after the light is extinguished (mainly emission related problems).
Other computers like ABS and ACC will remove the fault code as soon as the problem is gone.
I have a fairly high suspicion that your car problem could be related to a flaky ABS computer and not the wheel speed sensor but you will know after they have replaced the wheel hub and if the problem goes away or comes back.
