Half-studded and Hancook snows

A few years back, a BMW dealer recommended that if studded snows were desired on a BMW that it would be a good idea to stud just the inside side of each of the four tires to reduce noise and to not have so much adverse effect on cornering. I did it on my 5-series and it worked fine. Of course some of the effectivness of studding was lost on ice. Question is, now that I have a Saab, has anyone has either tried or heard of this approach for their Saab? I have an 04 Arc and am about to put on winter tires for the first time and really prefer some form of studding.
Also, has anyone tried Hancook snow tires, either on a Saab or otherwise?
Thanks.
Ells
