The Motorola kits provide a Bluetooth (wireless) link between the kit itself and the phone. The kit consists of a CPU... and an external speaker, external microphone, and a 4 button dash mounted controller... that all plug into the CPU. "Out of the box," the only wiring necessary to use the kit in any car is a 12v power lead and a ground.
The kit is also able to take advantage of any OEM handsfree setups in cars like the 9-5 cars... muting the radio when there is an incoming call, talking through a factory installed microphone, listening through the car's stereo speakers instead of the external speaker (and maybe more)... much like most other non-Bluetooth handsfree kits.
The advantages: All you need to do is get in the car with your Bluetooth enabled phone (clipped on your belt, in your purse, whatever), start the car, and you're ready to go. The system can be set up to recognize up to 5 different phones... my wife has the same Motorola V710 that I use, so it will work when either (or both) of us are in the car. We have a similar OEM system in our 2005 Acura MDX, and we like the convenience.
The disadvantages: There is no cradle provided. You can't charge the phone through the kit. And there is no provision for connecting an external antenna.
The link to the kit I have (Motorola makes a few of them) is below.
I am not sure how the Parrot kit works, but I think it is similar. The only "completely wireless" Bluetooth handsfree kits I have seen are those that plug into a cigarette lighter socket and have a microphone and speaker built in. I doubt that approach would work any better than simply using the speakerphone capabilities on our phones... which actually work "OK" if you put the phone somewhere close to you.
