I seriously doubt the oil pump being the problem as aircraft engines use and have used oil pumps with aluminum housings and gears for years. Also their oil screen perforations are about 4 times larger than that on the 9 series pickups. John Schriber ( SAAB Services) web pages describe with pictures in detail our look at this problem with what we think is the the solution. I have incorporated this in my 00 9-5. My 9-5 had 68k when I dropped the pan and found very little "coffee grounds or sludge".I modified the screen material anyhow. Frequent oil changes and high detergent oil makes a huge difference. I like and have used Shell Rotella T for many years in previous and current Saabs with no turbo or sludge, etc. problems. For what it's worth......
