I went through a similar evaluation back in March/April, but stuck with the 9-5 Aero. As I recall, the Audi was too new and a bit cramped (hard to find, long wait, high price, uneven reliability), the BMW too small (I'm 6'4''), G35 too cheezy, Volvo s60 too small, absolutely no headroom in the new Lexus GS300 (couldn't sit in it without the sunroof open).

Personally, I thought the TL's ride was a bit harsh, the handling a bit too twitchy with too much torque steer (quite a bit more than the Aero in my opinion). With no consideration of price, I liked the Audi best followed very closely by the TL. However, after driving all of these cars, I almost went the cheapo route with an Impala (if there's nothing I love, it might as well be cheap), but regained my senses after a test drive of a new '05 9-5 Aero and a very productive discussion with the business manager at the dealer (great deal, I got).

Maybe I'm just traditional, but I don't understand the criticism of the 9-5's interior. Maybe after 6+ years in a 9-5, I'm brainwashed (I see nothing wrong with the exterior styling either), but all the "modern" features of these redesigned cars seem gadgety and not so useful. Bluetooth integration, I must admit, does sound interesting, and just so you don't think I'm somebody still fighting against power windows, I do have the Saab nav system (which I like very much).

Then again, if I was looking at $100 more per month for a new Saab, I might have gone with the TL too. The TL is a nice car that seems to pack a lot of value.

Have fun. Hope you return some day (hope even more that there's a Saab to return to - let's just say I'm glad my lease was up in '05 vs. '06 -- at least if the pictures are doing justice to the vehicle).

Stan
