the lifters are hydraulic so they don't require adjusting. They do however require oil pressure/ flow. Perhaps sludge,or oil pump/ pick up issue. Generally, but no always, an exhaust leak will stop when the engine is warm, so I doubt that is it. Take the oil cap off the ft valve cover and stick your finger in there( engine off!!!) If you get sludge or build up I'd say you've found a good place to start.
