Many will chime to answer I'm sure but you definately want to choose a 2002+ Aero if possible (FYI, finding one with a manual tranny may be challenging as they're pretty scarce). Improvements were made in 2002 to seats and suspension but I don't expect them to be any less reliable than the older ones... MY 99 seems to have the most reliability problems if memory serves.
Trouble spots as noted on this board: (important to note that the 9-5 is rated quite high in reliability despite one's first impression reading this BB) DIC, Throttle body, Crank Position Sensor, SID pixels disappearing (minor), ACC evap drain hoses clogging (minor but irritating), brake dust (ditto). Sludge has come to our attention recently but, with frequent oil changes (very important!), the engine should last. Maintenance history is key information especially in regard to oil changes. Have a reputable, Saab experienced indy mech look it over beofer you hand over any $. Good luck!
