Alternator bearing whine Posted by Herb Hirsch [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Alternator bearing wine:
My 9-5 2000 Aero now has 254K miles on it. The alternator bearings whine from time to time and this is getting louder.
A replacement alternator (remanufactured) from SAAB runs about $450! I would install it myself, so labor cost is not a factor.
Alternatives:
1) I found a couple of sites that offer the exact same (right down to the Bosch part no.) Bosch alternator remanufactured for $115 plus an $85 core charge.
2) I also found a site (bearingsdirect.com) where I can purchase the bearing for about $25.
I'm leaning towards option 1, purchase of an identical Bosch remanufactured alternator.
I'd appreciate your thoughts and experiences........and recommendations regarding a quality source.
Thanks,
Herb
