Maintenance Records Question

Is it true that there is a central maintenance database for all Saabs, located in Trollhatten, and organized - at least for US-spec cars - by VIN?
OR
Is there a national database?
So, for example, if my US Spec 9-5 is currently being serviced in Belgium, the records would be housed in Belgium - and, therefore not accessible to a service point in Italy -- or the US when it's taken back.

I ask because I'm getting different answers with regard to not only hard copies of records, but also to the location of the maintence database.
One service point is telling me he provides no service records whatsoever because it's all on The Database
The other, when questioned, looked completely baffled, said he didn't know about The Database, and handed me a hard copy.


I'd also note that, when I took my '00 US-spec 9-3 from the UK to the US in 2002, the service point closest to where we were living (in Kentucky) could not access my maintenance records for the previous two years. Evidently, the VIN had not been properly processed when the car was released from the factory. Trollhatten, therefore, never recorded anything.
Or, at least, that was their story and they were sticking to it.
Having kept copies of my records, it was easy for them to reconstruct the car's history.


Y'know, this is my third Saab (the first being happily driven for 14 years and 250K miles). Never, never experienced so many blank stares from people who should know better.

Perhaps it's my accent....
