I would like to thank all those that sent in the tips on how to repair the SID. My SID was nearly totally gone and having just spent $1k on repairs (DIC, towing) I was in no frame of mind to spend $500-$600 on a new SID. It took me three tries but I finally restored 95% of the pixels.
1st time
used 2 layers of foam weather stripping, this restored about 25%
2nd time
two weeks after the first attempt added another layer of foam, no difference.
3rd time
with nothing to lose, I remembered the iron tip, couldn't see logistically how I would do this, so I used the blow dryer on low heat for a couple of minutes and then with a small flat screw driver pressed the eadge of the ribbon into the PCBA, reapplied 3 layers of foam and put it back together. Noticed the middle of the PCBA bows a little so I put a piece of felt underneath so when I slide it back into the plastic housing the bow flattened out and the middle became tight. Hooked it up to the power and what a sight it was approx 90%. Over the last couple of days a few more pixels have come back on line and am up to approx 95%.
Thank you for all the tips.
