I'd agree, it's tons of parts and probably not worth the time just on that basis. I think the mounts are slightly different, plus linkage, shifter, interlock, hydraulic system...maybe even driveshafts. A used slushbox can be had at a pretty low cost from recyclers if that's the issue, and some pop up on auctions for seemingly less that they would cost to ship!
Electrically is an open question: The mid/late-90s (NG900) main ECUs would autodetect the trans ECU and act 'like a stick' or 'like an automatic' based on presence or absence...this makes production costs lower but I don't know if the 9-5 was designed the same way. Digging thru the WIS, the integration to the starter interlock, ABS, TCS, etc., would tend to imply that but I don't think anybody's really tried.
It is an interesting question going forward...I'd guess, however, even if possible, the number will be rather low since a given slushbox in the 9-5 will quite likely last longer than a given stick (it was vice-versa in the 9000/C900 and is not uncommon).
