To remove the SID, remove the switch blanks (or TCS switch etc)next to it, carefully lever them out with a screwdriver (protecting your woodgrain if applicable). They are just on a over-centre plastic clip-type of thing. Once the switch blanks are out you can get your fingers in and pull the SID out pretty simply. Once again, just a friction lock, but you have to release both sides before it comes out. First time takes maybe 5-10 minutes while you work out how to do it without breaking anything, after that it's 1 minute flat.
I haven't removed the stereo, but from what I hear, you need some DIN removal tools and it just pops out.
