Seat cushion issues Posted by NP [Email] ![]() ![]() |
On my '00 wagon I've discovered that the driver's seat cushion isn't fully attached to the subframe. After some poking around down there, I realized that the leather seat cushion has a black rim that crimps around the metal subframe of the actual seat. It's supposed to just be hooked around the rim, but most of the rim on the console side (right side) of the cushion is flapping around like a tent with no stakes. It's really irritating. I tried for half an hour to pull the crimp back over the metal rim, but it's harder than it would seem. The black crimp has been loose so long that it has lost the shape of the subframe and everytime I get part of it re-attached, another part comes loose. Plus, it's extremely difficult to get my hands under the seat and to get the right leverage. Whenever I thought I had it back on, any weight on the cushion would compress it out of place again. When I folded down the rear seats I noticed the same problem starting to happen, but it's much easier to fiddle with those seats. Has anyone else had this problem or know how to fix it?
Also, I've noticed that the driver's seat rocks backward slightly. If I brace my legs against the floor, the entire seat tilts backward, as if it isn't fully affixed to the floor. I wonder if this could be a safety issue--it's disconcerting.
Thanks for reading and your advice.
