Pre ignition ping is when the mixture ignites before the spark happens. This requires that something be hot enough to trigger that. A worn spark plug, or heavy combustion chamber deposits can be hot spots that lead to that. If that is the case, then you can't blame the ignition system for something that happens before it fires the plugs.

Deposits and poor injector spray patterns can increase the "octane demand" of an engine, and that is called "aquired octane demand". This can be largely eliminated with a good fuel system cleaners such as Techron Concentrate. That is a very good product and easy to find in the USA. There are some other products that are worth using, but not easy to find. If you have not used the product before, I suggest the 20 ounce bottle. Thereafter maintanance can be done with the smaller bottle. I recommend every 8K miles or 3x/year.

Pinging can occur after ignition occurs, and the Trionic will avoid this if other things allow. Again deposits can make parts of the fuel mixture detonate from hot spots, as the heat and pressure climbs from the igntion wave front.

Make sure that the plugs are OK as well.

If you do the Techron Concentrate and regap or replace the plugs, and still have a problem, then you can look for something more serious.

There are some problems with MAFs going off spec and causing detonation and busted pistons on the Aero engines. If the MAF just totally failed that would be a better situtation than one that leads to pinging.

You can also then try some premium fuel to see how the system reacts to that.
