Did you buy BCPR6ES or BCPR6ES-11? If you bought plugs without the -11 extension, then Yes, they need to be gapped to 0.040 inches or 1.0 mm. If you bought plugs with the -11 extension number on the box, you should narrow their gap, but they are pre-gapped at the factory to the 1.1 mm dimension which is pretty close to the 1.0 mm specs if you can't get a gapping tool.
It is always best to gap the plugs when installing and not trust that the factory gap has not changed in shipping. Gapping tools can be under one dollar in cost. Unless it is an emergency, why be cheap?
