I have the autodimming mirrow on my 2004 9-5 Arc. On my car, at least, it doesn't do all that much... even with someone right behind me. I can see a difference between "0" and "1," but it is less of a difference than a typical "flip to dim" mirror and much less than the autodimming mirrors on other GM cars.
A few nights ago, I noticed that covering the light sensor on the front of the mirror housing darkened the mirror more.
