Transmission Shift Cable Failure Posted by Ian Glenday [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Thanksgiving Eve got stuck in WalMart, Hobe Sound parking lot with inoperative automatic transmission. AAA and I determined that coupling from cable to shift arm was broken. Managed to get it into nuetral from under the hood and get it on the flatbed. Left it at Vero Beach Saab that night and the driver was kind enough to bring me back to Stuart where we were visiting. Picked up a Cobalt for the interim this morning and headed back to Vero Beach. By the time I got there at 8:15 Gary had already determined that it needed a new transmission linkage cable as the teflon ball that does the coupling had broken. This is only the second one he has seen on a 9-5 and the other was some time ago and was covered by warranty. They were going to order under VOR (vehicle off road?). Job is not too easy as the console and one of the seats comes out to get access to the shift lever. Any other experience with this? Saab version of Cobalt would make a nice addition to the line. Understand that this is on the same platform as Astra on which the next 9-2 will be built (see link).
