Sounds like the engine isn`t warm - on Auto setting, you can set the temperature on HI, but it won`t blow at you until the thermostat opens and the fluid starts circulating. You can test this theory by watching the temperature gauge on the dash - no heat until it gets slightly above the L position, if I remember correctly.
If it is really bugging you, get a block heater, which heats up the fluid so that in the morning the oil is warmer, which is better for the engine, and the heat will come on faster. They are not hard to install, if your car doesn`t already have one like the Canadian version does.
Heat - nothing a materials scientist can`t handle with the right tools, eh!
