Do get the PCV system checket out as this might be the primary problem, perhaps with elevated crankcase pressures. A leaking PVC one way valve would pressurize the engine and create leaks. Some have checked that valve themselves and detected problems. If installed backwards, the problem gets rather serious.
Part of the problem might be stuck piston rings, which is more of a risk with lots of short trips. I would make sure the injector spray patterns are ok by using Techron Concentrate. And would use an engine oil treatment that claims to free sticking rings. That is an inexpensive option. There are three types. AutoRX is in a class of its own, and priced accordingly. There are two types of solvent based products. One has instructions to add, idle till up to temperature then drain. That type will state to not put a load on the engine. So once you add, you cannot then drive onto ramps. The other type is a smaller container that you add and drive as normal till the next oil change. Never use a product that is thick like honey. Some like Rislone are lube oil based and larger containers. But many products will feel watery when shaken.
I have seen two cases where oil consumption was a problem. One where the oil consumption went from nill to noticeable and a solvent type additive took consumption back to nil. And another where the enging was blowing clouds of oil smoke and the additive eliminated the smoking and consumption returned to normal for a high mileage V8.
What synthetic oil have you been using? I developed sticking valves/lifters once with Castrol FakeTec(tm) and solvent engine oil additives helped, but the thing that really fixed the problem was using Mobil 1. (95SET)
A xW40 oil may also improve things for you. M1 Truck and SUV 5W40 would be excellent for your year. 2004+ went to some rather restrictive oil specs and the M1 5W40 is not spec'd that way, but probably outperforms some of the in-spec oils.
