A kid down the street has a set of these on his "tricked out" Cavalier. I had to investigate and was impressed. His appeared to be a bolt on conversion rather than weld on, but use all the original factory attachment points. A heavy-duty steel plate is bolted to the body side hinge attachments. On this plate is a cam and the biggest/stubbiest gas charged cylinder I have ever seen! The door opens normally, meaning it swings out an inch or two from the body side opening, then it rotates upward.
Getting In and Out of the vehicle is relatively simple, atleast for him, a bone skinny 20 year old. But you need very long arms once seated in the car to reach up and pull the door down. Impossible from the back seat, probably impossible to open from the back seat too.
I can't imagine what these would look like on a four-door!
