based upon comments posted in the past on the Performance Bulletin Board (where you really need to be asking this question), the answer is a resounding YES!
Apparently the standard engine software loaded in the T7 ECUs causes the engines to run slightly lean. Modifications to the engine air flow componenets; turbo inlet pipe, turbo, intercooler, air delivery pipe, turbo downpipe, etc., will increase the airflow and cause the engines to run even leaner. Running too lean for prolonged periods can, and has, caused the pistons to melt!
You said you removed the catalytic converter which will make a major difference in engine airflow, and you are using your car on the track. You need new engine software to match your engine's revised hardware.
