My '03 came with the roll-up "Cargo" net that fits behind the rear seats and attaches to the fittings on the seats and the roof, when used. This works very well in keeping my two Brittanies from thinking they should be sitting up front. Spring loaded, it quickly rolls down into the metal housing when not used so your not looking through the mesh all of the time. When stores and with the cago area cover in place you can see it. This is $$ from SAAB, something like $300-350, but it works with the rear seats up or down. The barrier I have in our Mountaineer is held in place with threaded rods and wing nuts putting pressure on the floor and headliner. It leaves marks. BTW the carpet cargo pad from the Mountaineer fits almost perfectly in the SAAB.
