Just got back from Bay Ridge Saab.
I sat in a 2006 9-5, serenated by a crazy hobo with juggling cans of Goya, just wanted to comment on the interior. I'm not a purist calling for 9XXX type styling but materials quality is important no matter the design. The chromse surrounds are NOT that bad actually, the colored door handles are a big plus but here is what is wrong...
Instrument cluster - Not good! - The white arrows look cheap (spedo/tach/fuel) not the same quality as illuminated arrows on a BMW or merc. The gauges are surrounded by more of this plastic, perhaps brushed aluminum surrounds would have been better.
Door pulls - Not good^2! - Plastic feels hollow and empty, visible joints where plastic was fused/bonded.
GloveBox/Doors- are covered in textured plastic similar to that of the center divider in the old 9-5. There is no more memory-foam feel to the material, it's hard and looks cheap.
Leather- the leather is not as supple and padded. If you look rear from the driver seats the rear seats have loose leather fittings and it has a different, and im my opinion inferior, texture to it.
Radio- Well, aside from the rotary knobs/dials which feel more at home in economy car, the interface screen is nothing to write home about. The display is a bright/lime/timex watch green, the resolution is not the greatest and the letters are hard to read. Nothing wrong with pixels when your output is large, here the font is small (a la 2004 SID) but with bad resolution. The display reminds me of the total mileage, fuel read out on chevy blazer or mercury product.
Wood- I have an Aero cant comment on wood trim. It looked okay but when flanked by that shoddy plastic door pull the effect is diminished greatly.
Trunk - Opens with a rather flimsy "click".
Steering wheel - Auto-shift thumb paddles are made of very nice plastic, soft to the touch, spring action has good feedback, the buttons on the steering wheel also appear to be of the same quality with a nice satin sheen instead of the cheapo shine seen on the glovebox and doors.
I have to run the water is boiling,
Tom
