Which scan tool did you buy? I was looking into this recently. The nicest and most powerful PC-based tools I saw were in the $200+ range (Auterra, Autoenginuity, and Autotap). None of the tools seemed to offer Saab-specific sensors or fault codes, and certainly none of them have Tech2 style programming capability. All we can expect from an OBD2 scan tool with a Saab is the ability to read the generic sensors and read/clear fault codes. I therefore decided to go with a less expensive tool. I found one which only cost about $100 and supports all protocols including ISO (used on the 9-5 and older 9-3) and CAN (used on the new 9-3). It was the least expensive tool I could find that supports CAN. The software available for it is not the greatest, but it performs the basic functions mentioned above including reading the generic sensors, so I feel it was a worthwhile purchase. The saabnet spam filter won't let me post a link but the tool is called "obd2 all in one" and if you remove the spaces and add a .com you should find it. I am not affiliated with them, just a satidfied customer.
