The ignition coil he is talking about is most likely the IDM, DI or also called ignition cassette.

It sits on top of the engine and fires the spark plugs.

Saab have a pending service bulletin (volontary recall) out extending the warranty of those cassette. The volontary recall takes effect in March 2006 but Saab have instructed dealers to replace the ignition cassette even before that date if they see signs of a failure (like fault codes) or misfire problems.

Too bad though that some dealers have not received that notice from Saab and refuse to replace the cassette for free until the recall kicks in in March.

Two of my customers have been taken by one local dealer that say they can't do anything until March and they had to pay for the repair up front only to have to fight later on to get their money back from Saab.
That's why I say you need to find a friendly Saab dealer.
